Description

Product Information:

Wild bananas are a product of the HESE community enterprise, harvested by the Bana ethnic group in Kon P’long District, Kon Tum Province.

Wild Seed Bananas – nicknamed the “ancestor of all bananas” – are a distinctive plant species found in the high mountainous regions of the Northwest, Central Highlands, and Central Vietnam. Wild banana trees typically grow to a height of 3–4 meters and have a spongy trunk. The plant features long leaf blades with a glossy underside, green stems with red stripes, and dark red flowers that often grow straight among the yellow banana clusters. A bunch of wild bananas usually has around 10 hands (clusters), with fruits that have ridges and large seeds measuring 4–5 mm. When ripe, the bananas turn a deep yellow or purple color.

The bananas are harvested by the Kon Tum locals when they are fully ripe and sweet, with a beautiful golden hue. They are then pre-processed for either fresh use or dried for extended storage. The smaller the wild banana, the more resin it contains, and the higher its nutritional value. Additionally, other parts of the wild banana plant such as the flowers, leaves, and stems are also utilized.

  • Scientific nameMusa acuminata
  • Family: Banana (Musaceae)

Uses:

  • Supports treatment of urinary system conditions such as kidney stones, bladder stones, and urethral stones
  • Helps with digestive issues like stomach disorders and constipation, especially in children
  • Reduces symptoms of neck, shoulder, back pain, and rheumatism

Usage:

Ripe wild bananas are sweet and aromatic. However, due to their many seeds, they are not commonly used as a regular food source but are primarily valued for medicinal purposes.

One popular method of use is soaking the wild bananas in alcohol, which has become a favored alternative to the traditional method of grinding into powder. Wild banana wine is appreciated for its pleasant aroma, smooth taste, and the natural sweetness of the banana that lingers in the throat.

Note:

  • Do not eat unripe wild bananas, as they may cause poisoning or severe constipation due to high tannin content
  • Avoid eating wild bananas with molasses, as this combination can cause bloating

Storage: Store in a sealed container in a dry, cool, and well-ventilated place to prevent mold or insect damage.

Shelf Life: 12 months. When soaked in alcohol, it can be used for 1–2 years.
